Don’t Let Newcomer Language Funding Cuts Affect Your Studies in Canada

Language programmes for newcomers to Canada are a valuable tool to assist in integration into the country, and cover employment assistance, community integration services and language learning. In the past these programmes were funded by the federal government.

Policy changes from April 2025, put a stop to this funding, affecting many programmes, including Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC). LINC provides free English language instruction for newcomers with permanent residency status in Canada.

According to Kitimat Community Services Society’s programme coordinator, Brandi Thornton, the cuts are a blow to small communities where newcomers face isolation and culture shock.

“We don’t just help them with language and literacy, we help them learn to survive and thrive.” which includes learning how to deal with harsh winters.

To assist newcomers to Canada, and fill the gap left by these changes, Bayswater is offering those who would previously qualify for LINC, a special offer on English Language courses.
